3C Electronics and Plastic Card One-Item-One-Code Laser Coding Solution
I. Project Background
Consumer electronics and smart card manufacturers need to apply logos, serial numbers, and variable QR codes to 3C plastic housings, adapters, small PCBs, and plastic cards, enabling product traceability and anti‑diversion management.
Traditional inkjet and screen-printing processes often result in ink chipping and surface scratches on plastic substrates; card‑based QR codes suffer from insufficient contrast, leading to unstable scanning and recognition; and the printing precision for tiny characters is inadequate, with continuous consumption of ink supplies—making it difficult to meet the demand for dynamic, one‑item‑one‑code labeling on high‑volume production lines. By choosing Horizon Laser Technology, customers can implement laser marking to achieve permanent coding.

II. On-site Equipment Configuration
Equipped with a Horizon fiber laser marking machine—available in desktop models with optional 20 W or 50 W power—it is compatible with 3C‑grade plastic and card substrates such as metal, ABS, PC, and PVC. The device features a maintenance‑free air‑cooled laser rated for 100,000 hours of operation. Its software supports dynamic serial numbers and batch generation of variable QR codes, and it is compatible with DXF, BMP, AI, and other formats. It can also integrate with production‑line MES systems to enable real‑time dynamic coding. Optional tooling fixtures are available, making it suitable for both discrete prototyping and high‑volume assembly‑line production.
III. Process Implementation Results
Permanent marking, resistant to abrasion and corrosion: Non-contact laser engraving ensures that QR codes and characters on 3C device housings and plastic cards do not wear off, enabling end-to-end product traceability and robust anti-counterfeiting protection.

High-precision micro‑coding with a high scan‑recognition rate: ultra‑narrow line widths enable high‑density QR code and tiny‑character marking even on small product surfaces; optimized parameters ensure that plastic substrates are neither scorched nor blistered, while delivering excellent QR code contrast and stable reading by scanning devices.

No consumables, compatible with high-speed production lines: eliminates the need for ink and solvent consumables, features low overall power consumption, and requires no maintenance; supports rapid switching of variable data, enabling quick changeovers to process different models of electronic products and plastic cards in multiple specifications.

No damage to the workpiece itself: Non-contact processing prevents crushing or scratching plastic housings and thin cards, preserving the product’s original appearance and structure.

IV. Customer-Driven Value
After implementing the Horizon laser coding solution, the customer completely resolved quality issues such as ink‑code delamination and scan failures, resulting in a significant reduction in the defect rate. The solution also eliminates the cost of purchasing ink consumables, aligns production takt time with the assembly line, and enables digital traceability—assigning a unique code to each 3C component and smart plastic card—thereby enhancing product brand quality and supporting the company’s digital transformation of its production lines.
